Kendall River Station is located north west of Cairns and south of Weipa in Cape York, far north Queensland. It is a 9 hour, 680 kilometre drive (approximately) from Cairns with half of that being on dirt roads, or the mail plane lands on our doorstep, from Cairns, every Tuesday.
Arguably one of the most remote hunting destinations in Australia, Kendall River Station runs approximately 100 kms x 50 kms (800,000 acres). We are where the road ends.
It is dissected by four major water courses, the Archer River (northern boundary), Running Creek, Kendall River and the Holroyd River (southern boundary).
It has a bounty of other significant water courses, swamps and creeks, including Sinclair Creek, Williams Creek and the Kirke River.
There are tremendous numbers of pigs, big boars and plenty of fish (Barramundi, Saratoga, Sooty Grunter, Tarpon) along with the usual army of Dingoes, Brumbies, Scrub Bulls typical for this part of the world. We do have both freshwater and saltwater crocodiles in our water ways.
Personally I have 26 years of experience hunting and fishing Cape York, and have also guided throughout the Gulf of Carpentaria and the Northern Territory. My observations are; “Kendall River Station holds by far the largest number and concentration of trophy boars I have ever come across. I put this down to the fact the property owners do not run cattle, and concentrate their efforts solely on opening up new parts of the property with heavy machinery every year so that I can access areas never hunted before. This is a dedicated hunting property”.
This essentially means we do not have to hunt over the same area more than once in a year, sometimes two or more.
The fishing is great and we have a dedicated boat here for the anglers, which is a Sea Jay 4.35m side console with 40 hp Yamaha 4 stroke with Minn Kota electric. Perfect for this style of fishing, plus there is a multitude of land based options to fish as well.
We operate mid-May to early December every year.
We have exclusive rights to operate in the last true wilderness frontier Australia has to offer. Cape York is renowned for being stunningly beautiful, and inhospitable at the same time. The region has the ability to test both man and machine, and the animals that live here have adapted a toughness that has to be seen to be believed.
